Gold Safety Award certification awarded to companies who score between 85 and 95 percent on ConstructSecure’s Safety Assessment Program
PLYMOUTH, Mich., Feb. 16, 2020 – National Steel City (NSC), one of the nation’s leading self-perform specialty contractors, today announced it has earned ConstructSecure’s coveted Gold Safety Award. The Gold Safety Award is presented to companies who score between 85 and 95 percent on ConstructSecure’s Safety Assessment Program, and represents another valuable third-party endorsement for NSC’s safety program.
“National Steel City has done a remarkable job of implementing a strong safety management system,” said ConstructSecure CEO Garrett Burke.
The ConstructSecure Safety Assessment Program reviews a company’s historic safety performance and current safety management systems. The platform normalizes data for vendor or contractor size and type of work performed. The program provides thorough, objective and consistent evaluation of company performance so clients can identify, monitor, and manage risk smarter. The results provide a strong indicator on how contractors like NSC value safety and serve as a reliable predictor of future performance.
“Valuable third-party awards, certifications and recognition are a powerful validator of our continuous commitment to safety and to keeping our employees as safe as humanly possible,” said NSC Chief Executive Officer Bob Dunn. “We thank ConstructSecure for the opportunity to validate the strength of our safety program and look forward to participating in similar industrial and workplace safety certification programs.
Safety at NSC has always been a core company value, and the driver behind two important pre-COVID-19 in-house safety programs: SAWHORSE (Safety At Home, Work, Office, Safety Everywhere) to ensure best safety practices are followed culturally by everyone at NSC at all times; and SAFE (Safety Analytics For Evaluation), designed to incorporate safety data analytics to measure the effectiveness of safety practices on every project.
In 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, NSC deployed the Triax Proximity Trace system to ensure compliance with the CDC and OSHA’s COVID-19 guidelines for workplace safety. Each on-site employee is equipped with an RFID tag/device on both their body and harness. From a preventative standpoint, the system alerts employees who are within six feet of one another by both sound and light alerts in order to maintain six feet of social distancing whenever possible.
In addition to the use of Triax Proximity Trace, NSC has taken steps to ensure it exceeds current COVID-19 guidance, including: expanding COVID-19 safety guidance in employee training and job site orientation, limiting meeting sizes, going paperless where possible, deploying on site cleaning and disinfecting, and mandating the completion of employee questionnaires and temperature scans before commencing work.
