IN MEMORIAM

Robert J. ‘Bob’ Dunn
February 20, 1950 – January 28, 2025
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our President and CEO, Bob Dunn, on January 28, 2025. Over the course of his more than five-decade career, Bob earned an impeccable reputation as one of the finest steel construction professionals in our industry.
Bob served as President and CEO of National Steel City (NSC) since 2005. Under his leadership, NSC ranked on Engineering News-Record’s Top 600 Specialty Contractors for over two decades and has consistently ranked in the Top 15 in the Steel Erector category.
Prior to NSC, Bob was the President of General Riggers & Erectors, and later President of National Riggers and Erectors, a subsidiary of Havens Steel Company.
A proud union contractor, Bob was a highly skilled executive, leading the construction of some of the nation’s most complex structural steel projects, including the largest convention centers, airports, stadiums and sporting arenas, as well as other complex industrial projects, earning NSC a reputation that remains coveted across more than 30 states.
A cornerstone of Bob’s leadership was his motivation, drive and unwavering loyalty, not only to his valued employees and customers, but to forging partnerships with longtime industry associations, most notably: Ironworkers Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust (IMPACT), the Construction Users Roundtable (CURT), The Association of Union Contractors (TAUC), and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
Bob also was deeply committed to his values, of which safety remained paramount. His steadfast commitment to living safety as a practice was a critical ingredient to NSC’s current and future success.
Bob will be missed, and always remembered for the indelible impact he made on the lives of those he led, and an industry he sincerely revered. All of us offer our deepest sympathies to Bob’s family, and to all impacted by his passing. May he rest peacefully and remain forever in our hearts.
